The Almoravid Koubba

The Almoravid Koubba founded in 1064 in Marrakech (Morocco), is the last vestige of the Almoravids. Qoubba ("dome" in Arabic) was the center of ablution for believers going to the mosque.

The complex activity for several centuries was also one of the first fountains in the city of Marrakech and thus ensured the water supply of the population and their animals.

The three fountains and the center of ablution were fed by an underground system ("khettaras" in Arabic) which ended in a tank where interior bronze pipes brought water to the basins.

This monument is also characterized by its finely carved arches and ceiling, which makes this site a reference Almoravid dynasty,

Situation in the city

The Almoravid Koubba is situated in front of the entrance to the Ben Youssef Mosque and a few meters from the Museum of Marrakech.
